Walpole Little League - Update

Hello everyone – We hope this email finds our families safe and realize we all are trying to get our minds around the current impacts of the recent decision regarding the school year.

A quick update on Little League as we are starting to field some questions…….We expect direction from Little League in the next 7-10 days and remain suspended until May 11th.  We are working with the Rec Department on the availability of the fields.  Once we understand these factors, we can appropriately plan scenarios to ideally have some sort of season at some point this summer.

Regarding the league’s financial status, we are analyzing options – there is no playbook for this situation.  As you can imagine in starting tryouts and having finalized registrations, WLL made significant payments in terms of our insurance, Walpole town field fees, uniforms, equipment, league fees, tryouts, deposits for summer league/tournaments, etc.  We also need to maintain our West Street complex that is privately held.  Some of these costs are “fixed” for 2020 regardless of whether we play or not, many can be carried over in a worst-case scenario to 2021.  We will be transparent with you all once we understand the full ramifications.  We are investigating some financial options but that will take time, in parallel we have received some charitable donations over the past few weeks that help.  Our Board will vote on an approach once we have all information to make a decision.

Your patience would be greatly appreciated.  We understand some will need refunds as times are tough right now, we are evaluating all options as refunding all participants is not possible at this stage given the investments to date this year.  If a refund is required for hardship, we fully understand and please contact us at   to work it out.  Once decisions are made for the season, we are hoping that those that have the means consider taking a credit to a future season or making a donation to WLL.

Thank you for your understanding and we will be in touch soon.

Walpole Little League Update

Hello to all of our WLL Families – First off the entire Board of WLL would like to send our thoughts to all families during this time and we know you are all focused on your health & family during this situation.

We did want to provide an update on where things currently stand.  We were excited to get going early this year given the weather, but like everything in our lives right now, the reality is we must be flexible and adjust.  Little League has suspended activity until May 11th and our Walpole town fields are currently closed until May 4th

We have been meeting with towns in our District, the other spring sports in Walpole and as a Board.  Any decisions we make will be based on whenever we can get outside to play.  Our commitment to you all is we will transparent.  We have already purchased and printed uniforms, ordered equipment and keeping our Program owned West Street complex ready in anticipation for the season.

On a weekly basis we will be sending out practice ideas for your child while being at home.  There are many things we can do given we are all trapped at home….. Fielding, catching, throwing - you can use any type of ball, much of which can be done with barehands!  Baserunning -  If you do not have bases, who cares, use anything and set up a field in the backyard and work on running the bases!  Hitting can be a bit more of a challenge but at this stage anything is better than sitting in the house-If you have a wiffleball set bat use that!

Our commitment to the town of Walpole is when we are able to play, we will.  Our Board is meeting again in mid-April and will provide an update after that meeting.

Stay Safe
